Art & Architecture of 19th Century Italy

Generally unknown outside of Italy, this 6-part illustrated lecture series will illuminate the varied and rich Italian art of the 19th century. The Italian peninsula for most of the century was fragmented due to rule by foreign powers, the Papacy and individual small states. The unification of Italy during the ‘Risorgimento’ would produce new art and artists and, after Italian independence, a unique and expressive Italian art.
